Latvian National Symphony Orchestra under its artistic director and principal conductor Tarmo Peltokoski will perform just a few of the most exciting opuses dating from the first half of the twentieth century.

Le Tombeau resplendissant (The Resplendent Tomb), a tone poem by Olivier Messiaen, is the composer’s tribute to mourning: temple-throbbing rage is succeeded by melancholy, then acceptance and finally the long-awaited ray of hope. Meanwhile, Claude Debussy in the score of his three symphonic sketches under the title La mer (The Sea) paints splendid waterscapes inspired both by treasured childhood memories and depictions of sea in art and literature.
A mere couple of months after the premiere of Debussy’s Sea, the opera world is shocked by Richard Strauss, who has based his new opera on Salome, a play by Oscar Wilde. The title role of the opera will be brought to life by the great Lithuanian soprano Vida Miknevičiūtė.
