Project “Lāčplēsis” (The Bear-slayer) is meant to reveal a historical material – film “Lāčplēsis” (1930) by Aleksandrs Rusteiķis, part of the Latvian culture canon – in an emotional and nowadays relevant message, using means of expression of contemporary choral music, vocal art and electronic music.
The story takes place in two epochs – the mythical and the first part of the 20th century, when Latvians were fighting for their freedom.
The soundtrack, too, forms two parallel layers – it preserves the film music, incorporating the most outstanding examples of Latvian choral music of the first part of the 20th century, and uses contemporary world renowned vocal music, respecting and accentuating the drama and stylistics of the film.
The acoustic venue will synchronize the charm of live performance, the original recordings of the film music author L. Leibovics and electronic music sound patterns, interacting and thus intensifying the expressiveness and topicality of the film.
