This year’s edition of the festival will feature the world premiere of two one-act ballets by the Moldovan-born Ukrainian choreographer Radu Poklitaru and the Kyiv Modern-Ballet – ‘Lonely Angel’ and ‘Friends’.
Both ballet productions are based on music by the Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks – the meditation ‘Lonely Angel’ and his Cello Concerto No. 2 ‘Presence’.
The internationally acclaimed Ukrainian choreographer and director Radu Poklitaru was awarded the titles of Honoured Arts Figure of Ukraine in 2017 and People’s Artist of Moldova in 2016. He also won the 2016 Shevchenko National Prize and the 2017 Personality of the Year award and was also a prize winner at countless international competitions. To date, the choreographer has created more than fifty one-act ballets and full-size productions staged all over the world. The Latvian public enjoyed a reunion with Radu Poklitaru thanks to the production of ‘Viy. Nights of Horror’ at Latvian National Opera.
