The Jazz Lounge concert series at Cēsis Concert Hall welcomes one of the hottest names on the current scene ‒ the Grammy-nominated winner of the Thelonious Monk Contest, composer, singer and percussionist Jamison Ross (USA), who will be demonstrating his equally brilliant vocal and drumming skills on the same night.
The musicians appearing in Cēsis alongside Jamison Ross are Cory Irvin (Hammond organ), Rick Lollar (guitar), Max Moran (bass).
Jamison Ross is an American jazzman who first announced himself in the grand world of jazz as a talented drummer, winning the prestigious Thelonious Monk Contest in 2012 and releasing an excellent debut album entitled ‘Jamison’ in 2015, landing a Grammy nomination in the Best Jazz Vocal Album category. Jamison’s music stands out with its sunny mood and abundance of warmth.
Speaking of jazz as an art form, Jamison Ross has said that it is the kind of music you can fall in love with. He has done so himself since it has taught him to be creative and express himself. Ross thinks that a good performance is one that takes the listener by surprise instead of merely offering them things they already know. The musician also considers it very important to be with the listeners, share the particular moment, never losing the focus.
The American jazz magazine JazzTimes wrote about Jamison Ross: ‘While jazz history is lightly dusted with drummers who could sing—Buddy Rich, Grady Tate—none leap to mind whose vocal talents eclipsed their timekeeping acumen. Not until Jamison Ross.’
