Two long-awaited new works by Imants Kalniņš to kick off the year of the composer’s big anniversary year; the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, always a brilliant performer of ImKa’s music; Maestro Māris Sirmais, forever the darling of the Latvian public, an accomplished and sensitive interpreter of music by Latvian composers. In the Concerto for Oboe we will hear Pēteris Endzelis, play the oboe solo part. And we are waiting for a new surprise in Kalniņš’ Seventh Symphony: what has the eternally young Maestro come up with now, when we have been amazed by his Fourth, the ‘rocky’ one; charmed by the Fifth, the one born in a silver grove, and moved by the Sixth, the one inspired by the poems of Rabindranath Tagore?
