One of the most vivid young musicians on the European musical scene, the Estonian violinist/fiddler Maarja Nuut surprises with her deeply original and personal work. In her music, she combines traditional melodies, songs and stories with electronics, building layers upon layers of a complex and mythical musical space, where minimalism and experimental music rub shoulders with European village music from the pre-war period. Maarja Nuut always strives to achieve a lively yet completely relaxed state in her performances. According to the musician, such a state ‘gives rise to music and makes me want to prolong being in the moment while altering ways of seeing, hearing and perceiving. It is always “now” and old tunes are as fresh as improvisations which were born a second ago’. Maarja tells her personal stories through her violin, voice and modern electronics. Her concerts are filled with a magical fairy tale mood.
A special collaboration with Estonian electronic music composer Hendrik Kaljujärv will see Maarja’s hypnotic acoustic loops met with more edgy electronic sounds. Hendrik Kaljujärv has been actively present in different art forms, creating sound and music for drama and installations. Together they push boundaries and expand soundscapes of Maarja's latest album "Une meeles" that was released internationally spring 2016 and has reached great attention and appraise around the globe.
