Kristīne BALANAS, violin
Margarita BALANAS, cello
Roberts BALANAS, violin
On the night before Christmas Eve, some exquisite string music will take us on a journey of familial warmth and festive joy. It will open with the sophisticated baroque of Antonio Vivaldi and move on to the faraway America and the musical world of the early 20th century’s most famous American composer George Gershwin. The scope of the musical outlook of the Finnish symphonist Jean Sibelius will also make itself known in his chamber music, in his String Trio. The joy-inducing well-known musical themes from Piotr Tchaikovsky’s famous Nutcracker ballet will add some festive glitter to the evening, while the musical motifs of popular Christmas songs will bring the unique magic that is inseparable from this time of the year, evoking expectation of something beautiful and life-affirming in every heart. As a special gift from The Three Balanas to their listeners, the musicians will offer their own musical arrangements written especially for this Christmas programme.
The concert marks the end of the residency year of The Three Balanas ‒ the undeniably talented Latvian violinists Kristīne and Roberts and cellist Margarita ‒ at Cēsis Concert Hall, a year that gave the listeners some very diverse concert programmes, delighted with a newly created international chamber orchestra and a number of prominent guest solo musicians.
